What is Reiki?

Reiki is rooted in traditional Japanese medicine, using the gentle placement of hands on specific points of the body to create a therapeutic effect.

The Tradition Behind the Practice

Usui Reiki is based on the belief that living beings have a vital energy - known as ki (in Chinese Medicine, qi; in Indian Medicine, prana) - that circulates throughout the body's energy meridians. In the tradition of Japanese and Chinese medicine, disease or pain are often caused by an imbalance in that flow. The goal of Reiki is to stimulate energy along the meridians and restore its normal, optimal flow.

This restoration can help decrease pain, provide therapeutic support for disease management, and increase overall vitality. Reiki can be complemented by traditional Chinese acupuncture and herbs to enhance results. The practice was recorded as early as the 1900s, with Dr. Chujiro Hayashi playing a major role in treating disease and promoting health.

What to Expect During Your First Session

Who are the practitioners at Raleigh Reiki?

Raleigh Reiki has two Reiki Master-Teachers - Rita Daniels and Don Butto - and several affiliated practitioners across the Triangle area.

What do I need to bring?

Just yourself. We provide everything needed for your session.

What does a session consist of?

A complete Reiki session is offered to a fully clothed recipient lying on a treatment table or seated comfortably. Reiki is offered through light, non-invasive touch, with hands placed on a series of locations on the head and torso - never intrusive, never with pressure.

What will the experience be like?

The experience is subjective and changeable. People commonly report warmth in the practitioner's hands, subtle pulsations, deep relaxation, and an almost immediate release of stress. Reiki is cumulative - even people who notice little the first time usually have progressively deeper experiences as they continue.

How long does a session last?

Your initial evaluation and treatment lasts approximately 90 minutes. Follow-up treatments usually last about one hour.

How many sessions should I receive?

Your practitioner may suggest a series of sessions - four is a traditional recommendation, giving you time to evaluate the benefits. In the presence of a serious health challenge, practitioners often recommend four sessions over four days.
