The Tradition Behind the Practice
Usui Reiki is based on the belief that living beings have a vital energy - known as ki (in Chinese Medicine, qi; in Indian Medicine, prana) - that circulates throughout the body's energy meridians. In the tradition of Japanese and Chinese medicine, disease or pain are often caused by an imbalance in that flow. The goal of Reiki is to stimulate energy along the meridians and restore its normal, optimal flow.
This restoration can help decrease pain, provide therapeutic support for disease management, and increase overall vitality. Reiki can be complemented by traditional Chinese acupuncture and herbs to enhance results. The practice was recorded as early as the 1900s, with Dr. Chujiro Hayashi playing a major role in treating disease and promoting health.
